Obituary for Betty Lou Smith

Betty Smith, 84

March 11, 1937 to January 23, 2022

With profound sadness we announce the passing of Betty Lou Smith. She was a loving, devoted, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend to all whose lives she touched. Betty was born on March 11, 1937 in Riverton, Iowa to Arthur and Vera Smith. She had two brothers and two sisters.

Betty retired from Preferred Family Health Care after 20 years, at the age of 70, where she provided in home health care to disabled individuals who were unable to care for themselves. She absolutely loved her job and the clients she cared for. Anyone that knew Betty knew her love language was giving. If there was someone in need, she was always the first to help. Her interests included family, gardening, sewing, reading, crocheting, and enjoying good meals. She devoted much of her time and energy as a caregiver to her family, clients, and her dog, Candy, who was Betty’s loving companion for the last 10 years. Betty lived a full life as a wonderful mother, grandmother, mentor, friend, and caregiver.

Betty lived her life the way her spirit led her to. She was full of personality, stubborn and stuck in her ways. She always voiced her opinion and you knew where you stood with her, no matter where she was or who she was around. Betty is survived by her daughter, Martha Ward (58) of Lincoln, Nebraska, and her son, William Gray (50) of Everton, MO. She has seven grandchildren: Charity Ross (38), Holly Lundy (36), Joshua Smith (33), Robert Gray (30), Autumn Gray (28), Kyle Gray (24), and Skye Gray (20). Betty has thirteen great grandchildren as well.

A celebration of Betty’s life will be held at Rose Hill Baptist Church 9903 N State Hwy Z, Willard, MO 65781 on Saturday, January 29, 2022 at 1:00 PM. The family would love for anyone to join in this celebration to come with stories/memories to share of how you knew and/or will remember Ms. Betty Lou Smith.
