Obituary for Bart Duane Nelson

Bart Duane Nelson, "DB" aka "Daddy Bart", age 55 of Springfield, Missouri left this earth and went to his heavenly home on Tuesday, September 19, 2023, at 6:54 p.m.

He was a devoted, loving husband of 30 years. Bart enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1986 and was proud to serve his country. He was an amazing husband and father who cherished his family and the time he spent with them. He was known by his family and friends for his sense of humor, kindness, and always willing to help others. Bart worked at Envoy Airlines. Bart had a passion for aviation, racing, fishing and being with family and friends. He worked on anything with a motor. Not only was it a job it was a passion for him. He loved to take on projects that needed “fixin”. He was the neighborhood mower, vehicle, and bike fixer. He loved going to church with his family. One of his favorite places to be was with his family at the drag races where he would help his father and nephew with the families' 1966 Ford Fairlane. When he was not at the racetrack with family, he could be found fishing or going to some other racing event.

Bart was an active member of the Copeland, Kansas American Legion Post #369. Even though he no longer lived in his childhood hometown, he still believed in supporting the local American Legion post.

He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Elizabeth Nelson of the home; one son, Blake Nelson of the home; two sisters, Shanon Hayes of Copeland, KS, and Natalie Glassco and husband Scott of Angel Fire, NM; a brother, Matt Nelson of Lawrence, KS; six nieces and nephews, Nic, Kylee, Connor, Madison and Cierra, MacKenzie and Jarod, and many other family members and dear friends.
