Obituary for Barbara Falge

Our dear sweet mom, Barbara Christensen Falge, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, August 28th. She was surrounded by her family, singing songs and hymns we had always sung together.

Barbara was born in Hawaii and saw Japanese fighter-bombers roaring overhead as they attacked two nearby military bases on December 7, 1941. After the War, she and her family moved to the San Francisco Bay Area where she met and married Jim Falge, an outdoor-type Midwesterner, who took her out of the city and into a life of wild adventure. It started with a grouse hunting honeymoon in Michigan.

They raised 5 children, traveling across the country in a noisy, crowded station wagon, and enjoying a love-filled life which involved building and operating an Ozark riverfront campground near Devil’s Elbow, MO. They spent Christmases in the Florida Keys, and enjoyed 15 family-filled years living on Table Rock Lake near Branson, MO. Springfield has been their home for the past 5 years.

Barbara is survived by Jim Falge, her loving husband of 66 years and 5 children - Janice Nixon (David) of Springdale, AR; Carolyn Hurd (Stephen) of Springfield, MO; Robert Falge of Bentonville, AR; Pamela Slemp (Jeff) of Springfield, MO; and Jesse Falge (Adrianne) of Waynesville, MO; 2 sisters, Betty Frazier and Hilma Johnsen of the San Francisco Bay Area; 11 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, and one little dog named River. She will be greatly missed.

A celebration of her life will be held at the Wesley United Methodist Church, 922 W. Republic Road in Springfield on Tuesday, September 3rd, 2019. Visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m., where services will begin at 11 a.m.

If desired, contributions in Barbara’s memory may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Pl., Memphis, TN. 38105.
