Obituary for Ashlea Rhea Betzen-Miyauchi

Ashlea Rhea Betzen-Miyauchi, age 39, died Sunday, November 24, 2019 in the arms of her parents, Ted and Kathy Betzen.

Ashlea was an unexpected blessing to Ted and Kathy while Ted was still in Vet School at K-State. She was the beloved only-child for five wonderful years until she was quickly joined by Michael, Hillary, and Brianna Betzen. She quickly learned how to rule the roost and direct young ones around.

Ashlea had a life-long love of academia which led her to Coe College and eventually to Harvard Divinity School. Piles of books on physics and world religion seemed to follow her wherever she went. Travels brought her to Japan, where she taught English, and met her husband, Naoki Miyauchi. Up until the very end, she continued to teach English and share her love of learning at Missouri State University.

She combined her two passions, bossing people around and learning, into motherhood. She is survived by her twin sons, Kay and Sho Miyauchi, who will grow up to find a detailed quest laid out for them on how to find the buried treasure.

Join us in celebrating her life. Visitation will be held from 9:00-11:00 am Saturday, November 30, 2019 at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 2200 W. Republic Road in Springfield, Missouri with Msgr. Thomas Reidy officiating. A Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday followed by a luncheon.

Arrangements are under the care and direction of the Herman H. Lohmeyer Funeral Home in Springfield, Missouri.
