Obituary for Donald Lea Henderson

Donald “Don” Lea Henderson, 78, of Springfield, MO passed away peacefully on Friday, February 3, 2017 surrounded by his children.
Don was born September 8, 1938 to Wayne and Marguerite Henderson in Kansas City, MO.
Don was raised in Springfield along with his beloved younger brother, Jay. The two brothers were very close and shared many happy memories with one another until Jay preceded Don in death on July 13, 2016.
Don attended Central High School and Southwest Missouri State University. In addition, he served in the Army and was a former police officer with the Springfield City Police Department.
Don married Barbara Swearengin in 1963 and through their union, they had three children, Teresa (1964), Mark (1966) and Tracey (1970).
In 1975, Don and his family moved to Dallas, Texas. He worked there for the Carrollton Police Department and loved telling stories about his times working as a police officer in Missouri. The family lived happily in Texas until they returned to Springfield, Mo in 1986.
Don enjoyed history, especially archeology and was fond of architecture. He loved telling his children and friends about historical adventures of the past. As a matter of fact, he never lost his sense of adventure about the world around him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved second wife Carla “Pat” Martin, and his brother.
He is survived by his three children, Teresa, Mark and Tracey and one grandchild, Jeffery.
In lieu of a service, donations may be made to American Cancer Society, PO Box 22478, Oklahoma City, OK 73123.
