Obituary for Jeffery M. Powell

Jeffery M. Powell
Marvin Jeffrey Powell, son of the late Jesse and Thelma Powell, was born September 9, 1957 in Springfield, Missouri. At the age of 13, Jeff’s family moved to Springdale, Arkansas where he attended high school. His family returned to Springfield during Jeff’s senior year, where he graduated from Central High school in 1975. Jeff then attended Missouri State University for two years.

Jeff accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior in July of 1975. Throughout his Christian life, he served in many church capacities which included being a bus driver, helping with building maintenance and as a youth group director. Most recently, Jeff was an active member of North Point Church and served as a member of the Saturday evening prayer team and was a First Impressions member.

Jeff was united in holy matrimony to Gayle Kendrick on November 4, 1977. This union was blessed with two children and four grandchildren.

Jeff began work in the residential and commercial coatings industry shortly before he and Gayle were married and continued work in the industry until his passing. Jeff worked for Meeks and Valspar for 28 years as a Regional Manager. He supported the Run for Life with the American Cancer Society.

Jeff was never at a loss for words and his outgoing nature always drew people towards him. His personality, which was often fueled by a love for coffee, never let him sit still for long. His hands liked to be at work and he could often be found in the garage working on his truck or finishing a project around the house. His strong faith in Jesus Christ, a determination to do things the right way, and his willingness and love to help those in need will forever remain as lasting impressions of all who knew him.
Jeff departed this life Thursday, September 8, 2016 at Mercy Hospital in Springfield, Missouri. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Amber Powell, father-in-law Lowell Kendrick, his father and mother, Marvin and Thelma Rose Powell, and nephew Matthew Hubbs.

Jeff’s wonderful life will forever be cherished in the lives of his son: Ryan Powell and daughter-in-law, Amanda Powell of Battlefield, MO; four grandchildren, Emma, Cadence, Noah and Madelyn; brothers, Dennis Powell of Republic, MO, and Timothy Powell, of Fordland, MO; sisters Judy Palmer, of Springfield, MO and Marvina Groesbeck, of Willard, MO; brothers-in-law: Ray Palmer, Andy Groesbeck, Brent Hubbs and Marshall Bruner; sisters-in-law, Nancy Powell, Vicki Powell, Joyce Hubbs and Jan Bruner; as well as a host of devoted nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Jeff will be greatly missed.

There will be a memorial service for Jeff at 3:00 P.M. Sunday, September 18, 2016 at North Point Church, 3401 W. Norton Road, Springfield, Missouri.
